Leading Well conversations
Opportunities to connect with other thoughtful leaders.
There was a point in my career where everything looked right on the surface, senior roles, responsibility, and trust from others, yet internally I felt like I was constantly catching up.
I worked harder. Stayed busy. Filled my diary. I assumed that if I could just keep going, the doubt would eventually quieten.
It didn’t.
What I’ve learned since is that this feeling is rarely about capability. More often, it’s about the environments we’re in, the expectations we absorb, and the stories we tell ourselves about what “good leadership” is supposed to look like.
Leading Well exists because of that realisation.
Not to fix you.
Not to add more.
But to create space to think, reflect, and lead in a way that is sustainable, grounded, and human.

Hi, I want to tell you a bit of a story and it's a story that you might find all too familiar.
I was at a moment in my career where on paper absolutely everything looked right. I'd had a fast rise through my career, I had a senior position, I was well paid and it looked like I was doing everything right. Senior roles, responsibility and being invited to sit at tables.
Internally though, it felt very, very different. I felt like I was always catching up, like I wasn't good enough, like somebody was going to find out that I didn't know what I was talking about.
I would walk into rooms and just know that everybody else in the room knew far more than I did and that others were more prepared, that they were more confident and that they were more certain. I felt so far behind and so I did what many people like myself do.
Many thoughtful and reflective people.
I just worked harder, I studied more, I stayed busy and I packed my diary out because successful people are very busy, aren't they? I hope that if I just kept going and if I just kept doing more then those doubts that I had about me and my ability would just disappear.
The thing is, the doubts didn't disappear. They stayed and they grew and they grew and they grew and eventually, after decades, I recognised something really important.
The feelings that I was feeling, that so many of us feel, are so rarely about your actual competence. It's about far more than that. It's often about the environment that you're in.
It's about expectations that we absorb throughout our lives about leaders and what leaders look like and how they behave and what they know and who they should be.
It's about those stories that we tell ourselves about confidence, competence and leadership and how that should all look and the fact that we rarely fit that picture.
The culture around leadership is so much about being busy.
There is a whole culture and kudos almost about being really, really busy. You wear that busyness as a badge of honour. Self-doubt cannot be spoken about because I used to be terrified that I would mention the self-doubt and then somebody would say, well you know what Steph, now you mention it, yes you are rubbish at what you do.
But there are so many of us thoughtful leaders who quietly carry all of that baggage.
So if any of this feels familiar, I just want to reassure you, you are not behind. You are enough.
Sometimes all that we need is some space.
Space to think, space to reflect and space to learn and be free to lead in a way that is kinder and more human.
And that's why Leading Well exists because I needed that space and now I'm creating that space for people like you who need that space too.
Does any of this sound familiar?
You're capable, committed and good at what you do. Other people see that, even when you don't always see it yourself.
You care about doing a good job, about the people you work with and about making a difference. But sometimes the responsibility feels heavier than you'd like to admit.
Perhaps you're constantly questioning whether you're doing enough. Perhaps you're finding it difficult to switch off, or you've become so used to being there for everyone else that you've stopped making much space for yourself.
Or perhaps things are going well, but you're beginning to wonder whether the way you're working and leading is really the way you want to continue.
You don’t need a dramatic career pivot.
You don’t need another productivity hack.
You might just need room to think well.
What changes when you lead well?
From surviving leadership to inhabiting it.
Feeling more comfortable in your role, rather than constantly questioning whether you're doing enough.
From reacting constantly to responding clearly.
Creating enough space to pause, consider your options and make more intentional decisions.
From proving yourself to trusting yourself.
Recognising your own experience, capabilities and judgement without always needing external reassurance.
From carrying everything to thinking with others.
Making room for different perspectives, shared experiences and the recognition that you don't have to work everything out alone.
Leading Well isn't about becoming a different kind of person. It's about creating enough space to notice what is shaping how you lead, question what no longer serves you and make more conscious choices about what comes next.
What does Leading Well membership include?
Leading Well brings together reflection, learning and conversation to help you make space for yourself alongside everything you're responsible for.
Each month, you'll have opportunities to explore a different aspect of living and leading well, with resources and conversations you can return to whenever you need them.
You can take part in as much or as little as works for you.
Reflect
Monthly reflection guides
Each month, you'll receive a thoughtfully designed reflection guide with prompts to help you explore the month's theme and consider what it means for you and your leadership.
You can work through it at your own pace, return to it later or simply use one question that speaks to you.
The guides are available to print or complete digitally.

Steph's Reflections
Short audio reflections where I share experiences, observations and questions about leadership and life.

Monthly live webinars
Join me each month as we explore a different leadership theme, drawing on experience, research and practical ideas.

Connect
Leading Well conversations and community
Every other month, there's an opportunity to join a live conversation with other members, share experiences and hear different perspectives.
There's also an optional online community where you can connect between sessions.
You can join in when it feels useful and step back when it doesn't.
A little taste of Leading Well
Each month, we explore a different aspect of living and leading well, sometimes challenging familiar ideas and looking at things from a different perspective.
Here's a short extract from one of our monthly webinars, where I explore the role disagreement can play in good leadership.
You don't have to attend every session, complete every guide or listen to every reflection.
Everything is there for you to use in a way that works for your life and your leadership.
Take what you need. Leave what you don't. And trust yourself to know the difference.
What Leading Well members say
Sometimes I couldn’t keep up with every post, and the longer I left it the more I avoided it. What brought me back was Steph reaching out personally and asking how she could help.
That level of care and attention is exemplary. Her honest, refreshing approach motivated me to rethink how I spend my time - and to finally make time for myself.
— Ashleigh, Entrepreneur
“I see now that this was a learned behaviour - firefighting and avoiding making time for myself.”
Topics we explore
Rather than a rigid curriculum, Leading Well follows themes that many leaders quietly wrestle with:
Imposter phenomenon and self-trust
The myth of busyness and sustainable leadership
Boundaries, energy and responsibility
Values-led decision making
Confidence without performance
Rest, pace and the pressure to keep doing more
Leading with humanity while still getting things done
We explore each theme through reflection, discussion and practical application to everyday leadership.
You don't have to keep up
Life gets busy. Leadership gets busy.
There will be months when you come to the live session, listen to every reflection and spend time with the prompts.
There will be months when the reflection guide sits unopened in your inbox.
Both are okay.
Nothing in Leading Well comes with homework, streaks or guilt. The resources stay there for you, so you can come back when the time, question or need is right.
Thinking counts. Noticing counts.
Why I’m holding this space
I've spent more than three decades working and leading across healthcare, charities and the voluntary and community sector. Today I lead a large, complex organisation, sit on boards and chair organisations.
But I've also experienced self-doubt while other people trusted me. I've worked too much, questioned whether I belonged in the room and tried to lead in ways that didn't feel like me because I thought that was what leadership required.
I've learned that ambition and humanity can coexist. That we can care deeply about performance without exhausting ourselves or the people around us. And that good leadership doesn't require us to have everything figured out.
Leading Well is the space I wanted at different points in my own career.
So I created it.
If you’d like to get a feel for the conversations and reflections that shape Leading Well, you can also listen to my Leading Well with Steph Edusei podcast, where I explore leadership, self-worth and what it really means to live well alongside responsibility.

That probably tells you something.
Leading Well isn't about becoming more impressive.
It's about becoming more who you really are.
Leading in ways that are ambitious and human. Making space for yourself as well as the people you lead. And finding a way of doing this that you can actually sustain.
If that feels like what you need right now, you're very welcome here.
And if it doesn't, that's okay too. Leading Well will be here if you need it later.
